If you live in Lisbon there’s a pretty good chance you’ve noticed the unending supply of mostly unremarkable burger joints. Well, I am here to introduce you to the best possible antidote, in the form of a Hot Dog specialized restaurant - Frankie.
It’s located in an unsuspecting street in Campo Grande. From the outside it looks intriguing and if you come in you’ll realize that it’s a pretty cool place. At Frankie, you can have a totally different experience with this american classic. Let me elaborate: you know what makes up a hot dog right? Bread, sausage, maybe some topping like fried onions, fries or sauces. Well, now imagine one where the sausage can be vegetarian, frankfurt or fresh, just to name a few of the options. And as for those toppings, how about some nachos? Or a fried egg? Or maybe even some mac and cheese? wait, what, on top of a sausage? damn right! And for less than 5€.
As for those boring old packaged hot dog fries, forget all about them as you taste every crunchy bite of their delicious home made fries. Still not enough to get you through the door? Well, you can always kiss that diet goodbye and top those fries with some bacon. There’s a salad side too but might as well go all the way... Life is short anyway, right?
Frankie is all about decadent (but affordable!) indulgences, proved further by the dessert list. Their trademark is putting them in a jar and there are options like Oreo cheesecake, brownie, Eton Mess and Lemon Merengue.
To make it even harder to not love going there, the space is cool, bright, modern and comes with a lovely terrace where you can soak in the sun and smell the fresh air. The only downside? They don’t take reservations and they’re pretty popular so if you’re going for lunch I’d recommend coming until 12h30 and 19h30 for dinner if you want to grab a table. Last resort, there’s always the takeaway ;)
