Lucca is, for me, hands down, one of my favourite places in town. I’ve known it for year, back when you didn’t even have to make a reservation, and I can tell you the quality of the pizzas is just as good as the first time I went.
Anyway, a lot has happened since those first years and now you definitely need to make a reservation if you want to have a place, usually a day in advance. Another advice I give you is to ask for the non-smoking area if you don’t want to smoke because smoking is allowed in one of the rooms. If you do get a craving for their awesome food and can’t find a table, there’s always the option of take away.
It’s not even worth ordering the pizza over the phone, you just show up and 10/15 min later you’re out the door with it.
Practicalities aside, let’s focus on what really matters: the food! The menu is very comprehensive, with options for every taste: from pasta to salad to scallops or steak. Me, I always go for the same thing: pizza! The ones I recommend the most are the Montanara (tomato, scarmoza cheese - a sort of smoked mozzarella, delicious - pancetta and oregano) and the Figs and Prosciutto pizza (a perfect combination of sweet figs and salty prosciutto de Parma). This one you can only get when figs are in season ;)
The space is quite big and colorful, with pictures of the traditional Italian ingredients a little bit all over. By the bar, you have a glass wall giving you a view of the kitchen and the wood oven used to cook those tasty meals. Yum!
