TABERNA DA RUA DAS FLORES
Chiado / 15 €
Tuna tataki, Tabernão hamburguer
Taberna da Rua das Flores seems to have 2 complementary but equally lovely personalities. If you chose to go at lunchtime, you’ll find a charming place with simple but tasty food. In this format, the menu changes daily and it comprises a couple entrees, a couple of main dishes (around 8€ each) and a couple of desserts. It’s a solid option for lunch in the area where you can eat, for example, baits or codfish salad. However, the more intriguing side of its personality comes out at night.
For dinner, it’s all about the various tapas the Chef came up with that day, each filled with flavour and creativity. Some of the recommended ones are the minced mackerel, tuna (from the Azores) tataki or the tabernão burger (mushrooms, egg, peppers, onion, celery, potato chips). To finish off, either for lunch or dinner, I recommend the delicious chocolate cake (if you’re a regular ready I’m sure you’ve figured out by now I’m quite the fan of a good one ;)).
The space is a beautiful mix of the old and new traditions of Lisbon. The floor and some of the walls are covered in colorful tiles and the tables are wood with thick stone tops. It spread out across 2 equally cozy rooms, with slate menus and an original chandelier made of wine glasses!
As a final recommendation, I have to give you fair warning that Taberna da Rua das Flores is quite well known and they don’t take reservation. So, either you go off peak hours or come prepared to have to wait for a while at the door. Don’t worry, it’ll be worth it.
