The Decadente is a hot spot, a place to see and be seen. Located on the ground floor of the exquisite The Independente Hostel & Suites, it opened in 2011 and hasn’t stopped since. The Decadente was an instant success, in part due to the modern retro chic decor and the fantastic location (right in front of miradouro S. Pedro de Alcântara), it’s proved to be more than just another pretty face.
Its motto is “Indulgence without guilt…” and that’s exactly what they’re going for. For one thing, the space fulfills several different purposes: brunch (for 14€, with a buffet and a main dish); lunch (a la carte or with a 10€ lunch menu, comprised of entree, main and dessert, no drinks); dinner (snacks, meat, vegetable or fish dishes with the whole meal setting you back about 25€); bar (serving, besides the usual suspects, a ton of original cocktails for about 5€ each).
Thinking how this much stuff fits into one place? Well, walking in, you’ll find the hostel reception. Go right and you’ll find the bar, with a counter, followed by a cozy room to your left perfect for a drink or a mid afternoon tea. Keep going forward and you’ll find the main dining room, with lots of space. Outside, there’s a lovely terrace. It’s not uncommon for there to be different activities like concerts to boost the space.
Regarding the food, let me give you the lowdown. About the brunch, the fact that it includes a buffet is pretty cool since there are a ton of options. You also get to choose a main dish, with options like pancakes, bacon and egg or salmon and grilled aubergine. The lunch menu is nice deal as far as many for value goes but don’t expect huge portions or fancy dishes. As for dinner, where the cooks really get to show off their skills, there are creative and out of the box combinations of tasty food but, again, keep in mind the moderate portions.
Overall, it’s an awesome spot to take that out of town friend who you want to impress with your knowledge of the coolest spots in town!
