This place is a small gem in the heart of old Lisbon. Small only in size though – 3 tables inside and pair of tables in the outside area – because its soul is enormous. Marcelino, a name that is a reference to the famous Spanish movie “Marcelino Pan y Vino”, is very charming from the outside and doesn’t disappoints when we get in. The place is full of art, photos and paintings on the wall. For those who know how to play, there is a guitar that can be used by anyone who feels like improvising. In fact, during my visit to Marcelino, I was surprised by a regular local customer singing fado, accompanied by a neighbor with a portuguese guitar.
The menu is filled with Portuguese delicacies and includes tasty toasts, with two different sizes, made with bread from the Portuguese region of Alentejo, and accompanied by salad. I recommend the toast with olive paté, Serra da Estrela cheese, ham and garlic butter. As indulgent and Portuguese as it gets.
Any meal at Marcelino is enriched by the genuine sympathy and care that clients feel from the staff of Marcelino. I recommend this place to everyone that wants a gastronomic experience full of flavour, in a cozy environment and full of authentic people.
