Tartine is more than your average café. Sure it has several types of bread, lots of pastries and even a good sized lunch menu. But it also has something else. That can’t-quite-put-my-finger-on-it unique something that makes a place so special.
The space itself is ample and airy, with a modern and tasteful decor. You can choose to stay downstairs - either by the counter, where you can look all the treats or on the little table on the sidewalk, where you can have a feel of the city- or go upstairs, where you have 2 more rooms and a patio.
The menu offers a wide variety of pasties and treats such as pain au chocolat and scones. For a little more substance, go for the eggs benedict, one of their most popular dishes. You can accompany either with tea, a selection of coffee based drinks or a jar of natural juice.
Tartine is also a good option for lunch or an early dinner (the kitchen closes at 19h30) in Chiado. Besides the specials of the day (soup, salad, pasta, among others), there’s the fixed menu, which includes their signature dish, tartine. You can get it with grilled vegetables, smoked salmon, rostbiff or even some portuguese delicacies, like one with alheira and another with Serra da Estrela cheese. Yum!
